Disc Granulator: A Traditional Classic Producing Round, Appealing Granules

The disc granulator is a classic piece of equipment in the organic fertilizer granulation field, boasting the longest application history, most mature technology, and most intuitive operation. Due to its pelleting principle, similar to a “snowball,” it produces granules with extremely high roundness, uniform size, and strong marketability, long dominating the high-end granular organic fertilizer, flower fertilizer, fruit and vegetable fertilizer, and garden fertilizer market.

The disc granulator features a simple and precise overall structure, mainly composed of an inclined disc, base, reducer, motor, angle adjustment device, internal scraper, and spray system. The disc is made of thickened steel plate, lined with wear-resistant stainless steel. The inclination angle is infinitely adjustable within the range of 35°–55°. A larger inclination angle results in faster pelleting speed and smaller granules; a smaller inclination angle results in slower pelleting and larger granules, adapting to different process requirements.

In terms of operation, the disc granulator works by rotating a disc that lifts the material along its wall. Once it reaches a certain height, it rolls down under gravity, while a misting spray system replenishes trace amounts of moisture, allowing the powder to be absorbed, coated, and rolled larger layer by layer. An elastic scraper at the bottom of the disc automatically cleans away any adhering material, keeping the surface smooth and preventing clumping and scabbing that could affect pelleting. After stable operation, the finished pellets are uniform in size, round and plump, with moderate hardness, and a high sieve pass rate.

The disc granulator has certain requirements for raw materials: the material needs to be crushed to 80-100 mesh, and the moisture content should be controlled at 25%-30% for optimal pelleting. The pelleting rate is typically stable at 70%-80%. Unformed powder can be returned to the disc granulator via a return system, resulting in high overall utilization. Furthermore, the machine operates smoothly with minimal vibration and noise, and has an extremely low failure rate. Maintenance only requires periodic lubrication and scraper inspection, making it ideal for beginners.

Although it requires supporting drying equipment and occupies a slightly larger area, it has a clear advantage in the sale of commercial organic fertilizers due to its excellent granule quality. It is the most commonly used granulator model for organic fertilizer companies that focus on brand, packaging, and market circulation.
